Family Pasta Night

Sarah Banks Middle School PTSA in Wixom, Michigan, part of the Walled Lake Consolidated School District, held its third annual Banks Family Pasta Night on Friday, January 28th. The idea is to provide a family night of fun for our parents at a low cost.
Dinner included mostaciolli, salad, roll and a drink – $6 for adults, $5 for students through middle school ages, free for kids 6 and under. Ice cream could be purchased for $1. The PTSA reached out to local businesses for help to offset the costs – Panera Bakery donated the bread, CVS drug store on Wixom and Charms road donated the water, Gordon Foods donated a $75 gift card and Carvel Ice Cream in Commerce Township gave a $40 cash donation (no profit wad made on the ice cream).
Entertainment was provided by the Banks Middle School Jazz Band, Dance Dynamics Performing Company (two of our students are part of that renowned dance troop) and one of our students, an eighth grader, made balloon animals for the smaller children. We held a 50/50 raffle; each team (our students are taught in teams) and the PTSA put together a basket to be raffled off. More than 10 baskets – including spiritwear from all three high schools our middle school feeds to, movie night, top chef, banks spiritwear and more – were raffled off.
More than 300 people attended the two hour event. Servers included Kathy Lyall, our school board president and two city councilmen. We also invited the fifth graders from our feeder schools. The night was considered a big success. While money was raised, the idea for the event is to bring our families together to have some fun and share some food at a low price – the focus is more on community than making money.
