Michigan Men in PTA
How Active is Your “Men in PTA” Committee?
Male Engagement contact persons from each local unit are asked to sign up on our communication tool - www.bigtent.com/groups/MiMeninPTA
We are sharing files and other communications with men across the state.
How are you doing with Million Hours of Power!? By now every local unit should have the flyer and the local volunteer tracking forms. Keep in mind that the national PTA is asking every male volunteer to use the national volunteer tracking tool as well - http://www.pta.org/4197.htm. Please give us some feedback on our web site at www.bigtent.com/groups/mimeninpta.
Do you need inspiration and ideas about how to engage men? How about a weekly e-mail from - http://www.fatherhood.org/

Legislative/Children's Advocacy
Take Action Against
Bullying NOW!
Students report bullying is alive and well in schools. It is more crucial than ever to pass the law - too many students are taking their own lives because of bullying.
Contact your legislators and demand that they take action on Senate Bill 159. Michigan is among just five states in the nation that have not passed an anti-bullying law, while the 45 other states have been adopting these laws since 1999. CALL TO ACTION: Take Action Against Bullying Now!

Health & Wellness
Congratulations to Michigan’s Recipients of the 2010 PTA Healthy Lifestyles Grants!
We are excited to announce that three PTA units in Michigan were awarded a 2010 PTA Healthy Lifestyles Grant by National PTA. MacArthur Academy PTA in Southfield, Michigamme Elementary PTA in Port Huron and Potterville PTA in Potterville will all receive up to $1,000 to support good nutrition and physical activity to address the nation’s childhood obesity epidemic.
Currently, one third of American children and youth are either obese or are at risk of becoming obese. In response to this, PTA’s Healthy Lifestyles Grant program is working to emphasize the important role that families can play in keeping their children healthy and ready to learn.
Drink for Better Health
Serve Water and Milk
For kids of all ages, water and milk are the best choices, so let them flow. Not only is water calorie-free, but drinking it teaches kids to accept a low-flavor, no sugar beverage as a thirst quencher. Because a cup of milk has 300 milligrams of calcium, it can be a big contributor to your child's daily needs. Read more...
